The UK branch of the Awami League held a protest meeting in East London's Altab Ali Park this Sunday afternoon, expressing strong opposition to the recent ban imposed on the Awami League in Bangladesh. The demonstration saw the participation of prominent UK Awami League figures, including General Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruk, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, Asm Misbah, and Jamal Ahmed Khan, alongside numerous supporters and activists.From the programme, supporters spoke in support of Sheikh Hasina.
The protest was triggered by a decision made by the Bangladeshi government yesterday (Saturday, May 10, 2025),which officially declared the Bangladesh Awami League a banned organization.
