Two people have been charged following the fatal shooting of a woman outside a bar in Sheffield, according to police.
Shanice Brookes, a 30-year-old charity worker and mother, was discovered with critical injuries outside the One Four One venue on West Street shortly after 2:45am on Monday during the bank holiday weekend. Despite emergency treatment, she later died in hospital.
Investigators from South Yorkshire Police said Shanice was not involved in the violence and described her as an “innocent bystander” who had been enjoying a night out in the city.
Police confirmed that Jemele Rhone, 30, from Outram Road, has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm, and possession of criminal property.
A second suspect, Deiryen Dyce, 32, of Ellesmere Road North, has been charged with assisting an offender. Additional charges against Dyce include possession of ammunition, possession of drugs with intent to supply, and possession of criminal property.
Both defendants were remanded into custody and were scheduled to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court.
Officers also confirmed that another 30-year-old man who had previously been arrested on suspicion of murder has now been released from custody and is no longer considered a suspect in the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said Shanice’s death has left her family devastated, especially her young son, who now faces life without his mother.
He stated that no one should fear for their safety while enjoying a night out and described the incident as a deeply tragic loss for Shanice’s loved ones and the wider community.
