Mahendra Sarvendra, 52, of Aldenham Road, Bushey, jailed for £230,000 fraud.
  • Mahendra Sarvendra, 52, of Aldenham Road, Bushey, has been sentenced to six years and six months in prison for defrauding victims of £230,000 through bogus investment schemes.

A Bushey man who defrauded victims out of £230,000 by posing as a financial professional and diverting their savings into fictitious business ventures has been jailed for more than six years, Daily Dazzling Dawn can report. Mahendra Sarvendra, 52, of Aldenham Road, Bushey, was sentenced to six years and six months in prison at St Albans Crown Court on Friday 30 October 2026, following an investigation by the Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit.

The court heard that Sarvendra befriended his victims in 2022 and offered to arrange a remortgage for them. Instead, he advised them to invest their savings into a series of purported businesses, including a shop and an information technology business. The money was never invested. Rather, Sarvendra spent it maintaining a luxurious lifestyle, with only £10,000 ever returned to the victims.

Detectives from the Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit arrested Sarvendra and his wife, Mirnalini Sarvendra, 51, also of Aldenham Road, Bushey, following an extensive inquiry. Both defendants appeared at St Albans Crown Court for sentencing having been found guilty at trial. They had both pleaded not guilty to Fraud by False Representation and Proceeds of Crime offences, specifically money laundering.

Mahendra Sarvendra received a custodial sentence of six years and six months. Mirnalini Sarvendra was sentenced to three years, suspended for three years. A Proceeds of Crime process is now underway to recover stolen funds from the offenders’ accounts and assets, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands.

Detective Constable Laura Varney, from the Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit, said: “Mahendra posed as a financial professional after befriending the victims and used his supposed expertise to advise them on a series of bogus investments, most of which enriched his own lifestyle.”

Daily Dazzling Dawn learned that investigators are urging the public to exercise caution when considering investment opportunities. DC Varney added: “Financial investment is a specialised field, and I would urge anyone looking to invest to thoroughly research individuals and companies before committing any money into a venture. Genuine advisors must be qualified and registered with the Financial Conduct Authority; you can check their credentials at www.fca.org.uk.”

A deeper analysis of the sentencing report and police statement confirms the following identity details. Mahendra Sarvendra is 52 and Mirnalini Sarvendra is 51. Both gave the same address at Aldenham Road, Bushey, and the court proceedings identified them as husband and wife and co-defendants. No official ethnicity, country of origin, immigration status, religion, or further family information was released by Hertfordshire Constabulary or St Albans Crown Court. Daily Dazzling Dawn has therefore not attributed an ethnicity or country of origin, because doing so from a name alone would be unverified and would breach editorial standards. The report uses only confirmed personal details.

The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 allows authorities to pursue convicted offenders for the financial benefit they have obtained through criminal conduct. The process now underway against the Sarvendra couple will seek to identify and recover assets purchased with the stolen funds. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that confiscation proceedings can take several months to conclude, and courts may impose default sentences if defendants fail to satisfy recovery orders.

The sentencing at St Albans Crown Court brings a measure of closure to victims who entrusted substantial savings to a man they believed to be a legitimate financial adviser. The case illustrates the methods used by fraudsters who cultivate personal relationships to gain trust before exploiting it for financial gain. Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed that specialist officers continue to support those affected.
