Four men were arrested after tensions escalated between rival supporters ahead of the Yorkshire derby between Bradford City and Huddersfield Town at Valley Parade.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed the arrests as officers carried out a major policing operation to maintain order and protect supporters attending the fixture on Saturday.

According to the force, a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, while a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a Section 5 public order offence.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. A fourth man, aged 52, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a steward.

Police said an appropriate operation was in place around Valley Parade, with officers deployed across the stadium area and Bradford city centre.

Earlier in the day, Bradford City supporters gathered outside pubs and bars along North Parade, where a significant police presence was already in place.

As kick-off approached, home supporters made their way towards Valley Parade. Huddersfield Town fans had gathered near the Bradford Arms on Manningham Lane after being escorted from Bradford Interchange.

Dozens of police officers, including mounted officers, were deployed along routes leading to the stadium to keep the two groups apart.

There were several tense moments as rival supporters crossed paths. Some fans were involved in pushing and shoving with officers, while projectiles were also thrown between the two groups.

Police vans lined Manningham Lane as officers worked to manage the crowds and prevent further disorder.

Huddersfield supporters were later escorted to the stadium under police supervision after Bradford City fans had entered the ground.

The tense scenes before the match were followed by a disappointing afternoon for Bradford City on the pitch.

Despite remaining in contention at half-time, Michael Duff's side conceded twice in quick succession after the break, allowing Huddersfield Town to take control of the match.

Bradford's afternoon became even more difficult when Antoni Sarcevic was sent off.

The match ended in a 3-0 victory for Huddersfield Town in front of a sold-out crowd at Valley Parade.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police confirmed that four men had been arrested in connection with separate incidents during the policing operation.

The force said the operation was designed to ensure the safety of everyone attending the match.

Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the arrests. The investigation remains ongoing.

The arrests followed a day of heightened police activity as officers worked to manage rival supporters and prevent disorder around one of Yorkshire's high-profile football fixtures.
