Two people have died after a light aircraft crashed into a field near Ongar, Essex, during a short flight experience, police have confirmed.
The incident occurred shortly after midday on Tuesday, June 30, when a two-seat Cessna aircraft departed from North Weald Airfield on what was expected to be a brief flight.
Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said the aircraft failed to return as planned.
Emergency services were alerted at around 12:30pm after members of the public reported that a small plane had crashed in a field off Mill Lane in Ongar.
Police have confirmed that both people on board died in the crash. Their identities have not yet been formally established, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
