Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed hope that King Charles III will make an official state visit to Ukraine, potentially becoming the most senior member of the British royal family to visit the country since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Speaking in a recent interview, Zelenskyy said he would be delighted to host the British monarch in Ukraine, although he acknowledged that security considerations would ultimately determine whether such a visit could take place. The Ukrainian leader emphasized the strong relationship he has developed with King Charles and praised the monarch’s continued support for Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.
Zelenskyy noted that he and the king have met several times and described their connection as warm and respectful. He also highlighted the affection many Ukrainians feel toward the British royal family, particularly King Charles, whose public support has been welcomed throughout the war.
While Zelenskyy declined to provide details about the specific ways the king has supported Ukraine, he stressed that the monarch’s backing has remained consistent. Any official visit would carry significant symbolic importance, demonstrating continued international solidarity with Ukraine.
Since the start of the war, only a handful of senior British royals have traveled to Ukraine. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne have both visited the country in official capacities. Meanwhile, Prince Harry has made multiple visits, including trips focused on supporting wounded military personnel and veterans.
A visit by King Charles would represent one of the highest-profile international gestures of support for Ukraine since the conflict began and would further strengthen the close ties between Kyiv and London.
