A Bradford-based artist who is also related to former Zayn Malik star Zayn Malik is making headlines after unveiling a striking mixed-media portrait of King Charles III — with an asking price of £175,000.

Simone Malik, 45, describes herself as an award-winning artist, author, and one of the world’s most recognised “super recognisers.” The former NHS worker says her latest abstract artwork was created not only to challenge perceptions of modern art but also to support an important cause.

According to Simone, 80 percent of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

The A4-sized artwork features a distorted and experimental interpretation of King Charles, blending abstract techniques with recognisable royal features. Despite questions surrounding the high price tag, Simone defended the valuation, arguing that unique modern art has long commanded enormous sums.

She said the piece is intended to “push boundaries” and spark discussion about creativity, value, and public perception of contemporary art.

Simone explained that she chose King Charles as her subject because of both his position as monarch and his distinctive facial characteristics, which she believes make him instantly recognisable even in abstract form.

As a self-described “super recogniser,” she claims to have a rare ability to identify facial traits and patterns. She noted that the King’s sharp eyes and distinctive nose inspired her to experiment artistically with distortion while still maintaining recognisability.

The artist also said the project was motivated by the impact cancer has had across society, including within the Royal Family, and hopes the artwork will encourage further fundraising and awareness efforts.

Beyond her artwork, Simone says she has previously contributed to high-profile criminal investigations. She has worked on projects connected to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, including sketches and a 3D model imagining what Madeleine may look like as an adult.

She also claims that one of her earlier artworks helped authorities identify a serial child killer, earning her an Asian Women of Achievement Award in 2018.

Simone says she is proud to represent Bradford on an international level through her combination of artistic work and facial recognition expertise, adding that creating meaningful projects “feeds my soul.”
