The city enters a day of mourning while legal authorities prepare for a critical court sitting next week, Daily Dazzling Dawn realised. Limerick stands in a state of quiet reflection today, Friday, 17 April 2026, as family and friends gather to say a final farewell to Scarlett Faulkner. The mother-of-one, whose tragic death has moved the nation, will be laid to rest following an 11am Requiem Mass at St Munchin’s Church, Clancy Strand.

As mourners prepare for the service, the legal framework surrounding the case has reached a pivotal juncture. Real-time updates confirm that both defendants—a 16-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman—have been remanded in custody to appear again via video link at Nenagh District Court on Thursday, 23 April. At this upcoming hearing, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is expected to deliver formal directions on whether the current charges will be upgraded to murder or manslaughter following the conclusion of the post-mortem examination.

The atmosphere in Limerick has been one of profound grief, marked by a poignant balloon release earlier this week. In a powerful show of solidarity, family members have requested that all attendees at today's service maintain absolute peace. Speaking to journalists, Scarlett’s sister, Victoria Faulkner, reiterated the family’s firm stance against any disruption or alcohol consumption during the proceedings.

"My father asked me to pass on a message," Victoria told journalists. "If anyone is fighting, or any crowds are coming to the funeral who are not getting on with each other, can ye please just pass each other for the sake of Scarlett and the day that’s in it. We have had the hardest weeks of our lives. Please, I beg of you, just pass each other."

In court, it was revealed that the 16-year-old defendant has requested a certificate for a psychological assessment as part of her legal aid application. Meanwhile, the community remains focused on supporting Scarlett’s young daughter, Oceanna, who was the subject of a heart-wrenching floral tribute at the removal: "Love u mommy, ur diamond eyes daughter Oceanna."
