A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the tragic deaths of two children in Stafford.
Emergency services were called to a property on Corporation Street around 7:30am on Sunday after reports of a serious incident, Staffordshire Police confirmed.
Despite the efforts of paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service, the two children were pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield said police are working diligently to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
“We are working hard to understand more about what happened leading up to these two children tragically losing their lives,” she said. “We ask that people do not speculate at this stage as it is distressing for family and friends and could hinder our inquiries. We understand that this incident may cause concern in the local community, but we do not believe there is a wider threat to the public at this time.”
The children’s ages have not yet been confirmed. Police said their next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
