At least six people have been killed in a shooting attack in Jerusalem, according to an Israeli government minister.
Video footage captured the moment crowds fled from a bus stop during the busy morning commute. Emergency responders described a chaotic scene littered with shattered glass, where several people lay wounded or unconscious on the road and sidewalks near the stop.
Police confirmed that two gunmen were shot dead at the scene.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later visited the site and was briefed by senior security officials.
Authorities reported that roughly 15 people were injured, including six in critical condition, when the attackers opened fire after boarding a bus at a major junction on the northern edge of Jerusalem. The intersection connects to routes leading to Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem.
Israel Defense Forces troops have been deployed and are conducting searches for additional suspects. Security operations are also underway in Palestinian villages near Ramallah in the West Bank.
The militant group Hamas praised what it called the actions of two Palestinian “resistance fighters,” but stopped short of claiming direct responsibility for the assault.
Among the victims were three men in their 30s, a man in his 50s, and a woman also around 50 years old.
Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, speaking from Budapest, confirmed the six fatalities and added that a pregnant woman was among the injured.
Casualties with severe gunshot wounds have been taken to hospitals across Jerusalem, while others with lighter injuries from flying glass were treated on site.
The war in Gaza has triggered a surge of violence both in Israel and across the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
