The British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) London Region officially announced its new committee on Thursday during a meeting at the BBCCI's head office in London. The gathering was chaired by BBCCI President Mohammad Rafiq Haider and moderated by Director General Dewan Mahdi. Professor Shahgir Bakht Faruk, advisor to the organisation, attended as the chief guest, with notable special guests including former President Bashir Ahmed BEM, Senior Vice President Abul Hayat Nuruzzaman, Finance Director Helal Uddin Khan, and East of England Region President Dr. Shahanur Khan.
Monir Ahmed has been elected as the new President, while Tofazzal Alam steps into the role of Secretary General, and Md. Mahbubul Alam Khan will serve as Treasurer. The new committee also comprises Shamsul Arefin as Senior Vice President; Gulzar Khan and Mohammad Wahidur Rahman as Vice Presidents; Abu Sufian Jhilam as Joint Secretary; Md. Nazmul Haque Bishal as Joint Treasurer; Shoeb Kabir as Membership Secretary; Md. Ali Hussain as Organising Secretary; Halfsa Noor as Office Secretary; Md. Abdullah Mamun as Press and Publications Secretary; and Abdul Anwar Khan as Sports Secretary. The Executive Members are Md. Khairul Islam Bhani, Sayedul Islam Halder, and Aswar Ali.
In his address, BBCCI President Mohammad Rafiq Haider underscored the importance of unity among the expatriate business community, stating, "The unity, cooperation, and participation of our expatriate business community are the core strengths of BBCCI. I believe this new leadership of the London Region will further invigorate the organisation's activities." Chief Guest Professor Shahgir Bakht Faruk highlighted the BBCCI's influential role, expressing his belief that the new leadership will foster even greater creativity and initiative. He added that Bangladeshi expatriate business people contribute significantly to both the economy and community development.
Former President Bashir Ahmed spoke warmly of the BBCCI as a family, where "experience, leadership, and brotherhood are intertwined." He expressed pride in the new leaders and pledged his continued support. Newly elected President Monir Ahmed affirmed the committee's commitment to supporting expatriate Bangladeshi businesses more effectively, emphasizing that "transparency, accountability, and teamwork will be our core principles." Echoing this sentiment, newly elected Secretary General Tofazzal Alam expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him, vowing to work diligently for the members' interests, the organisation's traditions, and its future.
