China Warns Citizens Against Marriage Scams and Trafficking in Bangladesh
The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh has issued a warning to its citizens regarding marriage arrangements in Bangladesh, urging them to strictly adhere to the law concerning foreign-related marriages. The embassy advises against using illegal matchmaking agents and cautions against being misled by cross-border dating content found on short video platforms, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands.
The embassy emphasizes that Chinese law prohibits marriage agencies from engaging in or disguising cross-border marriage matchmaking services. Individuals are also prohibited from carrying out or disguising such activities through deception or for profit.
Chinese citizens are advised to avoid commercial cross-border marriage agencies and to be vigilant against online romance scams to prevent financial and personal losses. Victims of such scams are encouraged to immediately report the incidents to public security authorities in China.
The embassy also states that Bangladesh strictly enforces laws against human trafficking. Chinese citizens involved in illegal cross-border marriages in Bangladesh may face arrest on suspicion of trafficking.
Under Bangladeshi law, organizing human trafficking can result in imprisonment of no less than seven years, potentially up to life imprisonment, or even the death penalty, along with a significant fine. Those who incite, plan, execute, or assist in human trafficking may face imprisonment and a fine.
The embassy highlights that judicial procedures in Bangladesh can be lengthy, with potential delays of months or even years from arrest to sentencing in trafficking cases.
