A body has been discovered during the search for a missing 16-year-old boy in North Wales.

The teenager, identified only as Athrun, was visiting from South Gloucestershire and was last seen around 2 pm on Saturday at West Shore Beach in Llandudno, Conwy, wearing swimming shorts.

Search efforts resumed on Wednesday evening in the West Shore area after a body was spotted on Tuesday night.

According to North Wales Police, the body was recovered at 6:20 pm on Wednesday following a joint operation by the underwater search team and coastguard.

Formal identification is still pending, but Athrun's family has been notified and is being supported by police officers.

Authorities have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and the coroner has been informed.

Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan expressed his condolences, saying: "My deepest sympathies are with Athrun’s family, and I urge everyone to respect their privacy during this incredibly difficult time. This is not the outcome anyone wanted, and I would like to extend my gratitude to partner agencies and members of the public for their unwavering support and efforts throughout the five-day search."
