Police have arrested two individuals in connection with a suspected arson incident near a memorial display in Golders Green, north London. The arrests follow an investigation into a fire that occurred on 27 April, which authorities believe was intended to endanger lives.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were taken into custody on Monday morning in Romford. Both suspects remain detained at a London police station as inquiries continue under counter-terrorism protocols.

According to officials, the fire caused damage to a cabinet situated close to the memorial wall, although the wall itself remained largely intact. The site has been used to display photographs of protesters reportedly killed during demonstrations in Iran earlier this year. It also includes tributes to victims of the 2023 Hamas attack on the Nova music festival, along with messages expressing solidarity with the Jewish community.

Commander Helen Flanagan emphasized that authorities are actively working to safeguard communities across the capital. She noted that counter-terrorism officers are currently investigating several incidents in north-west London, including previous attacks targeting local services.

Police revealed that since a separate incident involving attacks on emergency vehicles in Golders Green earlier this year, a total of 30 individuals have been arrested, with nine already facing charges.

Search operations are ongoing at a property in Romford, as officers continue gathering evidence related to the case. Authorities have also increased support and security guidance for local organizations, community centers, and businesses amid heightened concerns.

The investigation remains active, and police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
