Police have announced a substantial reward for anyone who can provide new information about the murder of Melanie Hall. The 25-year-old university graduate was last seen on June 9, 1996, while attending a nightclub in Bath.
More than 13 years later, on October 5, 2009, workers mowing grass discovered her remains beside the northbound slip road at Junction 14 of the M5 motorway near Thornbury.
Almost three decades after her disappearance, Detective Chief Inspector Ben Lavender said investigators are urging people to recall what they may remember from that weekend.
The charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
The night Melanie vanished coincided with England’s opening match against Switzerland in UEFA Euro 1996, making the centre of Bath particularly crowded.
She was last seen inside Cadillac’s nightclub on Walcot Street, which has since closed.
Melanie, who worked as a clerical officer at the Royal United Hospital, was reportedly seen sitting alone near the dancefloor at about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, after her friends had already left the venue.
DCI Lavender said investigators believe there is a strong possibility Melanie left the nightclub with her killer. Her coat, which had been placed in the cloakroom earlier, was later collected. However, police say it is also possible she met someone outside the club or entered a vehicle.
Officers are appealing to anyone who visited Cadillac’s that night or may have seen Melanie to come forward, emphasising that even the smallest detail could be crucial.
DCI Lavender added that Melanie’s family has endured nearly three decades of heartbreak and uncertainty, showing remarkable strength during this time, and that the investigation continues with the goal of bringing them the answers and justice they deserve.
