Police have confirmed 35-year-old Stacy Mair was murdered, while her husband’s post-mortem remains pending as forensic teams scour a remote rural property on the outskirts of Houston.
The death of 35-year-old Stacy Mair—found alongside her husband at a remote property in Renfrewshire—is now being officially treated as murder following a post-mortem examination, Police Scotland has confirmed.
The death of her husband, 43-year-old Jim Mair, continues to be treated as unexplained pending the results of his post-mortem examination. Detectives have confirmed there is currently no evidence to suggest any third party was involved in the tragedy.
Emergency services were first alerted at approximately 7:50 am on Monday, July 27, following a report expressing concern for a person at a cottage on Corsliehill Road, on the outskirts of Houston, near Johnstone. The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched a comprehensive emergency response at 8:33 am, deploying four Special Operations Response Teams, two ambulances, and a specialist critical care team to the scene. A Police Scotland helicopter was also deployed during the initial response.
A heavy police presence remained at the property throughout Tuesday. Forensic officers clad in protective suits conducted detailed examinations of the cottage, an adjacent outdoor hut, and the surrounding woodland. Corsliehill Road—a narrow country lane flanked by farmland and isolated dwellings—remains cordoned off as detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team and local officers carry out extensive enquiries.
Jim and Stacy Mair, who married in May 2019, lived at the secluded cottage and jointly operated TRS Tree Removal Specialists, a tree surgery business based in Glasgow. Public business filings indicate that Stacy Mair had resigned as a company director earlier this year, though authorities have not linked this administrative change to the ongoing criminal investigation.
Detectives are providing ongoing assistance to the relatives through specialist family liaison officers.
