However, her mental suffering persisted. Investigators uncovered that she re-engaged on dark fetish forums and encrypted Telegram channels. Driven by a desperate urge to die, she solicited someone willing to inflict violence and murder upon her in exchange for payment, initially discussing a fee of $4,000. She flew from the UK to Gainesville Regional Airport, Florida, on 10 October under the tragic belief that she was meeting someone to quickly end her pain.

Evidence reveals that upon arriving in Florida, Exelby experienced overwhelming panic and regret. Messages recovered from Discord showed her growing terror as she realized she was trapped in a rented Airbnb in Reddick, unable to escape. On 11 October, she messaged a friend: "I'm sorry he keeps taking my phone, he doesn't trust me with it... I was questioning it last night". She added, "I thought he'd do it quick and not give my mind time to stew," describing her terror while noting her captor forced her to record consent videos "because he thought it was funny". Detectives established that her captor subjected her to days of physical abuse before inflicting four lethal sharp-force injuries with a knife and burying her body in a shallow grave in a wooded area in Marion County.

Who Is the Man Arrested for Her Murder and How Were They Linked?

The man facing trial is 53-year-old Dwain Hall of Ocala, Florida, owner and sole employee of Solver Wolf's Roadside Assistance, who operated online under the alias "Alphasadist" on specialized kink forums. Hall, who was married to Ginger Stein, claimed he initially avoided intimacy with Exelby so as not to feel remorse, before eventually engaging in sexual encounters.

Hall and Exelby had communicated online for approximately two years in what Hall described as a "mentor-type relationship" centered on extreme bondage and her desire to die. Prosecutors state Hall exploited her severe psychiatric distress for sadistic gratification and financial gain.

Before picking Exelby up at the airport on 10 October, store surveillance captured Hall purchasing rope, gun cleaner, and a shovel at a local Walmart using his own bank card. At the Airbnb, he allegedly abused and controlled her. Following her murder, Hall fraudulently transferred $1,200 from her bank accounts using his roadside assistance business account.

When interviewed by Florida Department of Law Enforcement detectives, Hall initially denied knowing Exelby, claiming she had merely requested failed roadside assistance. Detectives systematically dismantled his claims through phone location tracking, bank records, DNA, and surveillance footage. A shovel recovered from Hall's garage contained both his and Exelby's DNA. Furthermore, video on Hall's phone showed a severely bruised Exelby, and jailhouse phone calls led detectives to intercept a package mailed to an associate in Ohio containing a knife stained with Exelby's blood.

Hall was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, fraudulent use of credit cards, and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Denying him bail, Judge Laurie Cotton cited the overwhelming "large amount of evidence" against him. Hall has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains held without bond.

Being around her felt special—she brought a calmness and warmth that made everything feel a little lighter.

 "We know that life wasn’t always easy for you, but your life was so much more than the struggles you faced. This is so important to us that the life you lived is what you are remembered for. You were deeply loved, and you will always be deeply loved."
