Foisal Ahmed is now behind bars in the UK, beginning his eight-year prison term after his international attempt to escape justice failed.

Fleeing to France to escape his prison term, he assumed a false identity in a bid to rebuild his life. A major international cross-border manhunt has culminated in the successful extradition of Foisal Ahmed, a 34-year-old British Bangladeshi man of Desi heritage. Ahmed is now in British custody to serve an eight-year custodial sentence following his conviction for rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and child neglect.

The Trial, Escape, and International Pursuit- The case began in November 2023 when Cheshire Police were called to an address in Crewe. A female victim reported that Ahmed, formerly of West Street, Buckingham, had subjected her to repeated physical assaults and rapes over several months. Cruelly, during this period of abuse, he also targeted and assaulted the victim’s young child.

Following an intensive nine-day trial in September 2025 at Chester Crown Court, a jury found Ahmed guilty on all counts. However, in a bid to escape the consequences of his actions, he failed to appear on the final day of his trial, prompting the court to issue an immediate warrant for his arrest. Ahmed was ultimately sentenced in his absence to eight years' imprisonment on January 19, 2026.

Behind the scenes, British detectives collaborated with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Interpol, the National Crime Agency (NCA), and the Paris Judicial Police Directorate. Through coordinated intelligence sharing, investigators traced Ahmed to an address in France, where he was arrested on April 28, 2026, before being returned to the UK.

With the extradition process complete, Ahmed has been transferred directly into the British prison system to begin serving his sentence.

Detective Constable Amy Pegnam, of Cheshire Constabulary’s Force Intelligence Bureau, highlighted the importance of cross-border partnerships in resolving the case:

"Firstly, I would like to thank our colleagues in France, Interpol and the NCA. This is an excellent example of partnership working to ensure offenders are brought to justice. Thanks to this collective effort, we were able to locate a dangerous individual and bring him back to the UK to face justice for his crimes. Ahmed attempted to evade the consequences of his actions... but he was mistaken." Detective Constable Simon Knowles, who led the initial investigation, previously commended the survivor: "I would like to thank the victim for her bravery in talking to police about what happened to her."

The publication of this outcome by Daily Dazzling Dawn serves as a crucial reminder of the reaching power of international judicial cooperation, ensuring that escape across the English Channel does not offer safety from UK criminal prosecution.
