A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after carrying out a prolonged stalking campaign against his former partner, including creating a fake dating profile that directed strangers to her home under disturbing false pretences.

Asad Hussain, 36, was convicted at Chester Crown Court of stalking causing serious alarm or distress, assault, and failing to comply with a court order requiring him to provide passwords for his electronic devices.

The court heard that Hussain created a fraudulent profile using his ex-partner's identity on the dating app Tinder. Through the fake account, he falsely claimed the woman wanted to participate in violent sexual role-play, encouraging unknown men to visit her home believing she had invited them.

The harassment escalated dramatically during the summer of 2024. On one evening in August, four different men arrived at the victim's address after being misled by the fake profile. In another incident the following month, a man forced the front door with such force that it broke, leaving the victim terrified for her safety.

Prosecutors described the campaign as a calculated effort to intimidate and psychologically torment the victim. The repeated incidents caused severe emotional distress and left her living in constant fear.

In addition to the stalking offences, Hussain was found guilty of assault and of refusing to comply with a legal order to provide passwords that would have allowed investigators to access evidence stored on his electronic devices.

Following his conviction, the court imposed an eight-year prison sentence, reflecting the seriousness of the sustained harassment and the danger created by luring unsuspecting strangers to the victim's home.

The case highlights the growing misuse of online platforms to facilitate stalking and harassment, as authorities continue to warn that digital abuse can have devastating real-world consequences for victims.
