Inseparable Husband and Wife Tragedy Triggers Major Motorway Court Case

A profound tragedy on the M4 motorway has escalated into a major criminal investigation after a husband and wife succumbed to injuries sustained in a high-speed collision involving a suspected stolen vehicle.

Mohammed Haglia, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene on the westbound carriageway at Junction 4, near Hillingdon, when a black BMW 320i collided violently with the couple’s white Volkswagen Golf shortly before midnight on Saturday, June 1. His wife, Diljan Hagila, 62, survived the initial impact but died in hospital on June 6 after a week-long battle for survival.

A 29-year-old passenger traveling in the Volkswagen was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the BMW allegedly fled the scene before emergency services arrived.

Following an intensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police, Maninder Singh Brar, 28, of Hayes, was apprehended and subsequently charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing death while driving uninsured, and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

Arrest records revealed an intricate layer of suspected criminal activity preceding the fatal crash. Officers initially detained the suspect on a litany of counts, including the theft of a motor vehicle, driving a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, and fraud.

The inclusion of vehicle theft and fraud charges signals that investigators are probing the broader, systemic background of the vehicle's acquisition and illicit use prior to the catastrophic event.

The legal proceedings have now shifted to Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, where the defendant is scheduled to make his initial appearance. “This is a truly tragic incident, in which two members of the public have lost their lives," the inspector told journalists. "Our deepest sympathies remain with the family of Mohammed and Diljan Hagila at this incredibly difficult time.
