Royal Navy Helicopter Crashes in Devon Field

Road closures have been put in place following a helicopter crash near the A30 and A386 in Devon

A Royal Navy helicopter has crashed in a field near Okehampton, Devon, prompting a major emergency response, police have confirmed.

Devon and Cornwall Police said emergency crews are currently attending the scene at Sourton Down, and the incident remains ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said the situation remains active and that further information will be released as it becomes available.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the aircraft involved was a Royal Navy helicopter.

The Royal Navy said the helicopter crashed shortly before 4:00am on Wednesday. A spokesperson added that an investigation into the incident is now underway and declined to provide further details while inquiries continue.

Several roads in the area, including parts of the A386 and around Sourton Cross on the A30, have been closed. According to National Highways, disruption is expected on the eastbound A30 exit slip road to the A386 until approximately 12:30pm.
