Faulkner Family’s Third Tragedy

A 10-year-old boy is undergoing urgent medical scans today as his family maintains a bedside vigil following a fatal collision that has devastated the Limerick community.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 28 April 2026, the medical struggle for 10-year-old Christopher Faulkner has reached a pivotal juncture. The young primary school student, a well-known member of the Limerick community, is currently undergoing high-stakes diagnostic imaging at a specialist hospital in Belfast. In a heart-wrenching update shared by his family and confirmed by representatives, Christopher was scheduled for a CT scan followed by a critical MRI at 12:30 pm to determine the extent of injuries sustained in Sunday's fatal road collision.

The family’s appeal, shared through close relatives including Jason and Olive Faulkner, has moved a nation to prayer. "Can everyone please continue to pray for our nephew Christopher," the family stated. "He’s going down for a CT scan now and he’s going for a MRI at 12:30. Please God and Our Holy Lady give us the answers we need." These scans are expected to provide the clinical data necessary for the medical team to stabilize the 10-year-old, whose condition remains life-threatening.

The tragedy occurred at Nutts Corner on the Belfast Road shortly before 8:00 am on Sunday, 26 April. The collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Volkswagen Passat. The incident has already claimed the life of 16-year-old Callum Hutchinson from Borrisokane, North Tipperary, who was a passenger alongside Christopher. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that the driver of the Golf was arrested at the scene and remains in custody as investigations into the mechanics of the crash continue.

The Faulkner family is currently navigating a sequence of losses that is unprecedented in its intensity. This road tragedy marks the third calamity to strike the immediate family circle in a devastating 15-day period:

Scarlett Faulkner, 29: Passed away on 13 April following an alleged assault in Tipperary. A 16-year-old female remains before the courts in relation to this ongoing homicide investigation.

Jason Faulkner, 34: The brother of Scarlett, he passed away suddenly on Sunday, 19 April, just two days after his sister’s funeral rites.

Christopher Faulkner, 10: The cousin of Scarlett and Jason, currently fighting for survival in a Belfast Intensive Care Unit.

In a display of profound community solidarity, hundreds of people gathered at the Ballynanty Shrine in Limerick City on Monday evening at 6:30 pm. The open-air prayer vigil saw the Traveller community and local residents unite in silence for Christopher’s recovery and in memory of young Callum Hutchinson.

As the clinical results of today's imaging are processed, a family spokesperson told this publication that they are "clinging to faith" while awaiting word from the neurological team. The next 24 hours are regarded as the most critical window for Christopher’s stabilization. For a family enduring a "siege of sorrow," the community's support remains the primary anchor as they await news from the hospital ward in the North.
