The UK government has released updated travel guidance for St Vincent and the Grenadines, warning visitors about increasing safety concerns, particularly related to crime in public areas.

According to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), while the majority of trips to the Caribbean nation remain incident-free, there has been a noticeable rise in serious crimes, including murder, armed robbery, and assault. Officials highlighted a surge in gang-related shootings, some of which have occurred in busy, populated locations.

Tourists are being urged to stay vigilant and take sensible precautions. The FCDO advises avoiding isolated places—especially beaches—after dark, and being extra cautious in crowded environments such as street parties and large public gatherings.

Special attention has been drawn to the upcoming Vincy Mas carnival, held in early July, when incidents of theft and opportunistic crime may increase. Visitors attending festivities are encouraged to secure their belongings, avoid leaving drinks unattended, and plan safe transport back to their accommodation.

The guidance also recommends using only licensed taxis, being careful when withdrawing money from ATMs, and refraining from carrying large amounts of cash or valuable items. Travelers staying in hotels or on yachts should ensure their accommodation is properly secured.

In addition, strict laws remain in place across the country. Drug-related offences carry severe penalties, and visitors are strongly advised to pack their own luggage and avoid carrying items for others through customs. Wearing camouflage clothing is prohibited for everyone, including children.

The FCDO also noted that social attitudes in the region can be conservative, particularly regarding LGBT+ individuals. Public displays of affection may attract negative attention, and some same-sex activities remain illegal under local law.

Travelers planning a visit are encouraged to stay informed, follow official advice, and prioritize personal safety throughout their trip.
