  • Inside Yasmin's Final Days: Turkey Holiday, Awaited Post-Mortem, & A Family's Devastation

As the British Bangladeshi community in Tower Hamlets prepares for a heartbreaking Janazah, new details emerge about the final days of Yasmin Begum, the 42-year-old teaching assistant killed in the M11 crash, painting a fuller picture of a devoted mother, her family's life, and the urgent questions surrounding her sudden death, Daily Dazzling Dawn realised.

Essex Police have confirmed that the two other occupants of the vehicle—a man and a woman—remain in hospital with serious injuries.

A Family Pillar, A Community Heart-Yasmin Begum was far more than a victim of a tragic accident. Born and raised in Stepney Green, she was the cornerstone of a close-knit family. She met her husband, Mr M Ali (44), through family connections in their shared ancestral home of Sylhet, Bangladesh. Mr M, a quiet and respected figure who works as a logistics manager for a freight company at Tilbury Docks, is described by friends as utterly devoted to his wife and children.

Their two children—Ay..n (7) and So..a (4)—are now in the care of Yasmin’s father in Stepney, their world shattered. “The house is full of silence, broken only by S....a asking for her mum,” a maternal aunt, who asked not to be named, shared. “Yasmin was the light. She managed everything—the school runs, homework, caring for her ageing parents, and still gave her all to the children at Brampton Primary. Mohammad is destroyed; he has lost his partner in every sense.”

The Turkey Trip: Holiday Amidst Healing-Contrary to speculative social media commentary, multiple family sources have confirmed to Daily Dazzling Dawn that Yasmin’s trip to Turkey was primarily a holiday, a rare respite organised with her best friend. “She had been planning this for months,” the aunt revealed. “It was a girls’ trip, a chance to relax. The idea that it was for medical treatment is not true. She was in good health, Alhamdulillah. She just wanted a break, like any hard-working mother deserves.”

The travelling party consisted of Yasmin, her friend Anik.', and Anik.’s husband, who acted as the driver for the group. Yasmin and Ani.a flew back together, with Ani.a’s husband (the driver in the crash) picking them up from the airport. This clarifies earlier confusion about the passenger dynamics.

Post-Mortem and Release-A crucial hurdle lies between the grieving family and the chance to lay Yasmin to rest: the post-mortem examination. According to a liaison officer from Essex Police working with the family, the procedure is scheduled to be completed by the end of today, Friday, February 6.

The examination, being conducted at Harlow Hospital’s mortuary, aims to formally establish the medical cause of death, a standard requirement in all sudden fatalities. Barring unforeseen complexities, the family has been advised that Yasmin’s body could be released to them by Saturday morning. This will allow the Janazah (funeral prayer) to be promptly arranged, most likely over the weekend at the Jamme Masjid in Brick Lane or a larger East London mosque to accommodate the expected hundreds of mourners.

Community Rallies, Criticism Condemned-In the face of unwarranted online criticism questioning Yasmin’s trip, community leaders have issued a powerful rebuke. “This is a time for compassion, not judgement,” stated a local councillor. “We are rallying around Mohammad and the children. A fundraising effort will be launched to support the family’s immediate and future needs, especially for the children’s education.”

Witnesses or those with dashcam footage are urged to contact Essex Police immediately, citing Incident 36 of 4 February.

The investigation by Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit remains active. Officers are still appealing for dashcam footage from drivers on the M11 southbound between Junctions 7 and 6 just before 12:50 AM on Wednesday. The focus is on understanding why the red Audi A3 left the carriageway.

For a family and a community, the wait for answers is secondary to the overwhelming loss of a woman who was the very centre of her family’s universe. As they await her final return home for burial, Yasmin Begum is remembered not for how she died, but for how she lived—as a loving mother, a dedicated teacher, and a shining light in East London.
