A major incident has been declared in Shropshire after a sinkhole was reported on a canal in the Chemistry area of Whitchurch.
Emergency crews remain at the scene, with a coordinated multi-agency operation under way through the Shropshire Tactical Co-ordination Group (TCG).
Authorities have confirmed that there are no reports of injuries, and affected residents are being supported by the fire service.
Images seen by Sky News show a large section of the canal completely drained, with two narrowboats believed to have slipped into the sinkhole and now resting on the canal bed.
In a statement posted on X, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it is responding to a landslip impacting the canal in the Whitchurch area and urged the public to stay clear of the affected zone, including Whitchurch Marina, while emergency teams work to manage the situation.
