Murder Probe After 17-Year-Old’s Death

Tributes are being paid to a 17-year-old girl as police launch a murder investigation into her death.

Armed officers were called to Cefn Fforest in Blackwood, Wales, at around 7:15am on Thursday following reports that two people had been seriously injured.

A 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 38-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment. The teenager has been identified in local reports as Lainie Williams.

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man from Newbridge on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He remains in custody.

In a Facebook tribute, Megan Lois wrote:
"There are not enough words. Rest peacefully our brave and beautiful cousin Lainie. I’ll forever cherish our precious childhood memories. You were, and still are, so loved."

Detective Superintendent Philip O’Connell of Gwent Police said they are not seeking any additional suspects.
He added that residents may notice an increased police presence as enquiries continue and urged anyone with information to speak to officers or get in touch through the usual channels.
