Record Arrivals Amidst Strict New Rules and Tech Innovations for a Sacred Journey

Hajj 2025 is well underway, with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior imposing stringent new regulations aimed at preserving the spiritual sanctity of the pilgrimage. This year also marks a remarkable logistical achievement, as 62 airlines have successfully operated 3,314 flights from 238 cities across 71 countries, bringing millions of pilgrims to the holy sites, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands.

New Rules for a Spiritual Hajj

In a significant directive issued on Tuesday, the Saudi Ministry of Interior announced a strict ban on taking photographs, recording videos, or raising any political or sectarian expressions at the main Hajj sites. This new rule applies to the two holy mosques, Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, as well as other pivotal Hajj locations such as Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. The ministry emphasized that this measure is designed to "protect the spiritual and peaceful nature of the Hajj" and warned of "serious consequences" for anyone found breaking the rule. The statement reinforced that Hajj is a time for worship, humility, and unity, urging pilgrims to avoid any conduct that goes against these core values. Pilgrims are "strongly encouraged to adhere to the regulations and cooperate fully with authorities to ensure that Hajj 2025 is conducted in a peaceful, orderly, and spiritually enriching environment."

Seamless Arrivals and Cutting-Edge Logistics

The Hajj Transport and Logistics System has demonstrated exceptional efficiency in facilitating the arrival of pilgrims. Saleh Al Zuwaid, the system’s official spokesperson, reported that the reception and movement of pilgrims have been managed with "high operational efficiency," ensuring a smooth start to the sacred journey.

A major highlight of this year's Hajj logistics is the enhanced performance of the Haramain High Speed Rail. The railway has scheduled an impressive 4,700 trips throughout the season, with a passenger capacity of two million – a significant increase of 400,000 seats compared to last year. The frequency of service between King Abdulaziz International Airport and Mecca has surged by 75%, now averaging one trip per hour. As of Sunday, the train had already transported 700,000 passengers, a number expected to grow as the season progresses. Furthermore, the Mashaer Train is anticipated to conduct over 2,000 trips during Hajj week, efficiently transporting more than two million passengers across the holy sites in just seven days.

Innovations for Pilgrim Comfort and Safety

In a proactive measure to combat the extreme summer heat, the use of road cooling technology has been expanded by 82% compared to last year. This innovative system has proven effective in reducing road surface temperatures by up to 12°C, particularly in high-traffic zones like the areas surrounding Namirah Mosque, enhancing pilgrim comfort.

Technological advancements are also playing a crucial role in communication and crowd management. Saad Al Shanbari, spokesperson for the Hajj Communications and Technology System, announced that 4G and 5G network coverage across Mecca, Medina, and the holy sites has reached an impressive 99%. This has led to a 10% year-on-year increase in internet speed, now averaging 264 Mbps, with speeds in Mecca and Medina alone reaching 336 Mbps – a 19% rise from last year. Over 10,000 Wi-Fi access points have been installed in partnership with telecom providers to further enhance connectivity.

In a pioneering move, the Communications and Space Technology Commission (CSTC), in collaboration with Aramco, has successfully implemented an artificial intelligence-powered crowd management system utilizing HAI surveillance cameras. This marks a significant leap in leveraging technology to ensure the safety and smooth flow of millions of pilgrims, underscoring Saudi Arabia's commitment to delivering a world-class Hajj experience.

What to Do for Muslims on Arafat Day Who Can't Join Hajj:

For Muslims unable to join the Hajj pilgrimage on Arafat Day (the 9th of Dhul Hijjah), there are several highly recommended acts of worship and devotion. Fasting the Day of Arafat is one of the most virtuous voluntary fasts, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said it "expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year." This fast is specifically for those not performing Hajj. Additionally, increased Du'a (supplication) is highly encouraged, as Arafat Day is considered the best day for prayer, with the Prophet stating, "The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafat." Engaging in Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) through phrases like "Allahu Akbar," "Alhamdulillah," "La ilaha illallah," and "Subhanallah" is also highly beneficial. Other recommended acts include reciting the Quran, seeking forgiveness (Istighfar), performing good deeds such as giving charity and maintaining family ties, and setting intentions to join in spirit with the pilgrims.
