— Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, is set to return to London from Dhaka on June 5th via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. Several UK BNP leaders are also expected to be on the same flight. Multiple sources have confirmed this development. While various UK BNP leaders have confirmed the information, they declined to be named, citing Dr. Zubaida Rahman's return as a personal matter.
Dr. Rahman has already had her government job reinstated in Bangladesh, and a case against her has been settled. Her return to London was previously delayed due to the illness of both her mother-in-law and her own mother, Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, who is also unwell in Bangladesh. However, with some improvement in her mother's physical condition, she is now returning to her family in London, to be with her husband and children, on Thursday's flight from Dhaka.
Responsible sources close to Tarique Rahman in London further stated that Dr. Zubaida had returned to Bangladesh leaving Tarique Rahman in London due to the illness of her mother and mother-in-law. Otherwise, she would have returned to Bangladesh with her husband. When Tarique Rahman returns to Bangladesh, Dr. Zubaida will return with him.
It's worth noting that on May 28th, a single High Court bench of Justice Md. Khosruzzaman acquitted BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman in a case concerning the concealment of asset information and the acquisition of wealth beyond known sources of income. The High Court granted Zubaida Rahman's appeal against the verdict of the lower court.
Dr. Zubaida Rahman completed her MBBS from Dhaka Medical College and obtained an MSc in Medicine from Imperial College London. She secured the first position in the BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) examination for doctors and joined government service as a physician in 1995. However, she went to London in 2008 on educational leave. Subsequently, the Ministry of Health dismissed her from service as she could not return to the country in accordance with leave rules.
Regarding this, AKM Fazlul Haque, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health, stated the day after Dr. Zubaida's return to Bangladesh, "Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, returned to the country yesterday. She is getting her government job back."
